Autobiography
The Diary of a Young Girl
By Anne Frank
"The diary of a young girl" is an autobiographical account of a Jewish girl, Anne Frank during World War II (1942~1944). This is a very special book which narrates the holocaust from a teenager’s point of view.
Anne frank a Jewish Dutch 13 year old was living with her parents Otto Frank and Edith Frank and an elder sister Margot in Amsterdam Her father ran a business named Opekta and had license to manufacture pectin used in making Jam.
In 1942, Netherland was occupied by Nazi's and Anne’s elder sister Margot(16 year old) received an official summon to report for work at a Nazi camp. Greatly perturbed by this development, the entire family moved to a safe house which was located in Otto’s company building.
Anne started writing her diary when she was 13 and all through her stay in the hideout she writes about how inhuman the circumstances were (never whining though) and how each one of them was trying to survive. She opens up about the world, the political situation , the inhuman treatment meted out to the Jews and their mundane yet difficult daily lives in the hideout.
A 13 year old being exposed to the kind of cruelty during the Nazi era is unimaginable, but despite her circumstances, Anne never seems dejected. What surprises you is the depth in her writing and the intellect with which she writes.
Unfortunately Anne and the other members of the hideout were captured in 1945.. She and her sister died due to typhus fever in a Nazi camp and so did her mother. Her father was the only surviving person from the hideout and he decided to publish his daughters work in 1947.
Not being able to open your windows, eating the same things everyday falling sick and somehow still living with hope , that’s what Anne Frank’s book is about. Anne frank wanted to be a journalist but died at age of 15 but what she left behind is a masterpiece, an absolute classic !!
