The Palace of Illusions

By Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

The Palace of illusions by Chitra Banerjee could be a interpretation  of the best Indian Epic religious text through the eyes of Draupadi , the married woman of Pandavas .The story sticks to the first script of the Epic to an outsized extent, with some artistic liberties here and there.

Draupadi or Panchaali, the blue blood of Panchaal  had a destiny like no alternative lady in Asian country. Born of fireplace, Panchaali was associate aberration quite clearly from her youth.  She wasn’t the illustration run of the mill lady either. The story, narrated by Panchaali,  tells her aspect of the story.

Panchaali was born to a king at the side of her twin brother. As she grew she showed signs of rebellion antagonistic her from remainder of the women of the palace, leading to a lonely childhood . At a mature age she was married to Pandava patrician Arjun .However, under unthinkable circumstances she had to be married to remainder of the four brothers of Arjun too.

A woman married to five men was extraordinary some time past, it isn’t detected of currently either. What challenges and rebukes she Janus-faced being during this uncommon scenario is what forms the soul of this book.

It takes bravery to the touch a topic that is wide well-known through the length and breadth of the country. The author has done a splendid job at that .

Mahabharata is that the greatest Epic of Asian country and each Indian is aware of it in some kind or the opposite. The author needs to be applauded for having the ability to retell a story of this magnitude and convincingly enough.

I likable the book however was unsuccessful with the portrayal of the connection of Panchaali and Karna.

The book is fascinating, intriguing, proficiently written and positively value a scan.
